BPA found in every can of tuna tested

Testfakta's presentation on TV4 morning show

Testfakta’s laboratory test of eleven canned tuna products detected bisphenol A (BPA) in every sample, while the substitute chemical BPF was found in nine. All measured levels of mercury, cadmium and lead remained below EU limits.

The test also found major differences in sustainability information. Only one product received a green rating in the WWF Seafood Guide, underlining the importance of clearly stating the tuna species, fishing area and catch method on the packaging. The EU ban on BPA in food-contact materials takes effect for canned fish in January 2028.
